This Minerama Festival in Glen Innes has been getting better each

VOLUNTEERS at the Emmaville Mining Museum are looking forward to the busy period
created by this weekend's Minerama Festival.
The museum that opened in June of 1999 expects around 30 to 40 people through its doors each day of the festival, with visitors bound to be struck by the superb quality stones on displays.
The displays include thousands of mineral and precious stone specimens, around 350 historic photographs depicting the rich mining heritage of the area, a number of excellent private collections including intricately carved animals from soapstone , an 1890's general store and an excellent collection of antique bottles.
Minerama and the Celtic Festival are the busiest times for the museum along with the Christmas holidays were we generally get a lot of kids with their families coming through, Museum president Ron Jillett said.
The museum is visited by between 3500 and 4000 visitors every year.
People come in from all over the world, it's amazing, said museum treasurer Kay Shroder.
The 20 strong team of volunteers which operates the museum is expecting plenty of visitors to head to Emmaville under their own steam this weekend. In addition, the museum is on the schedule of guided tours being led by fossicking enthusiast John Paix, who will also take fossickers to some secret locations in pursuit of precious stones.
There will also be guided tours running from the Museum each day of the festival, taking people to different sites of interest. On Friday Ron Jillett will conduct a tour to Terry Clifford's Emmaville property where there are significant deposits of the mineral Flurite, while on Saturday and Sunday Rodger Faulkner will be guiding gem enthusiasts to other fascinating locations.
